Explore the Visual Art of Melanie Crowe
Inspired by the natural rhythms of life and the contours of landmass, I am moved by how slight elevation change impacts systems. Our relationship to the earth and how time and place impact thoughts, feelings, and perspectives is a source of constant discovery.
I am fascinated by topographic maps: the lines, contours, symbols, colors used have a familar feeling that breaks landmass into two dimensional space. Capturing thoughts and emotions through color and imagery to connect time and place brings cohesion and meaning to a place in time.
The interwoven connections and interdependence between landmass, plants and animals that inhabit locations, relationships with the earth, and the cyclical experiences of life are a basis to learn to understand oneself and our place within this earth. Juxtaposing imagery and environment allows for a deeper exploration of the desire to relate and connect. Each piece is an exploration of relationships between parts of a whole, connected but separate.
